SAVANNAH, GA. (June 29, 2014): Islands Precinct officers for Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department initiated “Operation Trust and Information,” to promote positive and productive communication between police officers and citizens.

As part of Operation Trust and Information, officers are visiting citizens at randomly selected houses and businesses within in their assigned beat. Once contact is established, the officers provide citizens with crime prevention and reporting tips, information about SCMPD services and upcoming events. This operation also is intended to give citizens an opportunity to provide officers with feedback on public safety within the area.

Islands Precinct Crime Prevention Officer, APO Ryan Thomas said, “We wanted to give the public access to police officers in a relaxed and informal environment.” Thomas continued, “The public needs to know we’re available to hear them out about any crime-related concern.”

Operation Trust and Information began on Sunday, July 27. It will continue until Aug. 9. So far, officers have successfully made contact with 26 residents.
