BICYCLIST CRITICALLY INJURED

SAVANNAH, GA. (June 23, 2014): Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a collision between a car and bicycle that left the bicyclist in critical condition this afternoon.

Reubin Johnson, 48, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the 2:31 p.m. collision at Abercorn Street and Montgomery Cross Road.

He was riding a bicycle east across Abercorn against the traffic light when he was struck by a red Suzuki Forenza driven by an 18-year-old Savannah woman.

The investigation necessitated the redirection of southbound traffic on Abercorn for several hours.

MAIT continues to investigate the crash.
