CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY APPLICATIONS AVAILIBLE

SAVANNAH, GA. (June 5, 2014): Registration has begun for Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Fall 2014 Citizens Police Academy, which gives Chatham County residents a forum to interact informally with members of the police department and the local criminal justice system.

The 14-week program is scheduled for Thursday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. from Sept. 11 until Dec. 11. Participants will meet officers from each unit of Savannah-Chatham Police who will explain their unique roles within the department. Speakers also will be present from various SCMPD partner agencies.

The academy allows citizens to tour the 911 Center and the Chatham County Jail. Participants will experience firearms/tactical training, traffic stop scenarios through role playing, and ride-a-longs with SCMPD patrol officers.

SCMPD will provide certificates of completion to all graduates. Citizens Police Academy graduates interested in further supporting SCMPD through volunteerism will be eligible to apply to the department’s Volunteers in Policing Program.

All classes will begin at SCMPD Headquarters at 201 Habersham St. A one-time registration fee of $10 is required via check or money order. No cash can be accepted.

Applications are available at all SCMPD precincts or online at http://www.scmpd.org. All applications need to be signed, notarized and returned to SCMPD precincts or police headquarters.

The application deadline is Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.
