SAVANNAH, GA. (March 16, 2014): Thirty-nine arrests were made by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police during the 2014 St. Patrick’s Day Festival on Saturday and by 8 a.m. Sunday.
Thirteen disorderly conduct and nine public urination charges were the most numerous.

Police Chief Julie Tolbert pointed out that the number of issues were few considering the tens of thousands of people who saturated the Control Zone from the Savannah River to Jones Street and from MLK Junior Boulevard to East Broad Street.

“This was one of the largest crowds we have encountered during any event but the overwhelming majority of attendees enjoyed themselves in orderly fashion,” she said. “It’s unfortunate that some must behave in a manner to disrupt others, but we will continue our efforts to keep all people safe and property protected.”

So far, police have made 43 arrests in the four-day festival, 30 by officers working out of the City Market command center which covers the majority of the festival area, and 13 from the command center on River Street.
