SAVANNAH, GA (December 20, 2013): Results are in for the multiagency taskforce facilitated by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Savannah Impact Program (SIP) to make Chatham County safer this holiday season.

Monday, Dec. 16, the “Operation Safe Holiday” taskforce performed compliance checks and served warrants for preselected adult and juvenile sex offenders, probationers and parolees. The objective was to reduce occurrences of common criminal activity during the holiday season by closely monitoring known offenders.

Law enforcement officers made contact with 51 offenders. The operation concluded with 14 searches, five drug screenings, 18 field interviews, one sex offender violation and seven arrests.

Offenders in compliance with court orders received counseling on accessing soft skill training available through SIP’s Job Readiness Program, which aids in interview preparation and job placement, and its Work Ventures Program, which hires offenders for jobs directly supervised by SIP, including: graffiti removal, landscaping, janitorial services, and car washing.

“Operation Safe Holiday” was supported by the State Board of Pardons and Parole, Savannah Probation, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and Chatham County Juvenile Court.
