P.R.O.P.S OPERATION

SAVANNAH, GA (August 28, 2013): Representatives from eight different law enforcement agencies joined with the Patrol Division of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department in a two-day sweep of prolific offenders that ended Wednesday night.

The sweep is called P.R.O.P.S. (Police, Probation and Parole Responders of Public Safety). Dozens of officers from participating agencies targeted residences and locations associated with sex offenders, probationers and parolees (juvenile and adult), and individuals with outstanding warrants from SCMPD and the Chatham County Sherriff’s Office.

Authorities screened probationers and parolees for compliance with the terms of their release. Subjects with outstanding warrants were arrested.

SCMPD Police Chief Willie Lovett, who had commissioned the operation, commended the officers of his department and those of other agencies who participated in the operation.

“These officers put in long hours to bring in offenders and those who were not complying with their terms of release and to support those who have complied,” Lovett said. “This operation was designed to do both to keep our communities safe.”

Included were officers from Savannah Impact (SIP), Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole, Georgia Department of Corrections Probation Division, Chatham County Juvenile Court, Chatham County District Attorney’s Office, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, Savannah State University Police Department and the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team (CNT.)

Preliminary reports for the operation indicate that 26 wanted criminals were taken into custody, successful compliance screenings on 11 sex offenders, and 161probationers and parolees. Also, a significant amount of marijuana found growing at a residence during a single warrant service, resulted in the arrest of two additional adult residents.
