SAVANNAH, GA (June 4, 2013): A car-van collision this morning killed one Port Wentworth man instantly and hospitalized another with serious injuries.

Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers are investigating the 5:50 a.m. crash at Jimmy DeLoach and Crossroads parkways.

Edwin Barrondo Hernandez, 51, was declared dead at the scene. Manuel Chivalan Calam, 42, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center.

They were in a green Saturn sedan driven by Calam that was westbound on Jimmy DeLoach and turned left onto Crossroads. The Saturn was struck on the passenger’s door by a gray GMC van being driven eastbound on Jimmy DeLoach by Michael Knight, 34, of Pooler. Knight was not injured.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police continue to investigate the collision.
