CHARGES ADDED AFTER PURSUITS

SAVANNAH, GA (January 22, 2013): Additional charges have been filed against two convicted felons arrested after a high-speed pursuit that included three crashes and a foot chase and the woman who allowed the truck they were driving to be used.

Derrick Andre McDaniel, 29, of Garden City, and Jawyann Porchei Pringle, 29, of a Dunwoody Drive address, were captured by officers from multiple agencies off Hopeland Drive in the Windsor Forest neighborhood about 7:15 p.m. Metro police also charged the owner of the pickup truck, Shona S. Lewis of Garden City with permitting a driver to violate state law.

They were in a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by McDaniel that had led Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Midway police officer on a high-speed chase on Interstate 95, and collided with one vehicle at US 17 and Highway 204 and a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department police car at Science Drive and Abercorn Street.

The officers in police car were in route to Apachee Drive and Abercorn to clear traffic for the oncoming pursuit when their car was struck. The collision with the police car sent the pickup out of control, eventually overturning multiple times on the lawn of Armstrong Atlantic State University.

The two men ran across the campus and through a fence to the Windsor Forest neighborhood where Pringle was apprehended by Liberty County, Armstrong Atlantic and Metro police officers after being tazed by a Liberty County deputy. McDaniel was apprehended by a Metro officer.

Inside or near the pickup, police found two handguns, including one reported stolen in 2011, cell phones, drug related items, cash and other suspect items.

Two Metro officers in the patrol car that was struck were transported to a hospital for treatment. They were treated and released.

McDaniel was charged by Metro with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen firearm, obstruction by fleeing, loitering and prowling, reckless driving, hit-and-run, and driving with a suspended license. Liberty County has added charges of speeding (98 in a 70), failure to maintain lane, failure to obey a traffic device or sign, obstruction, hindering a law enforcement officer, attempt to elude, aggressive driving, passing on the right and reckless driving.

Pringle was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony obstruction and faces a previously issued warrant by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office for conspiracy to commit a crime. Liberty County has added charges of obstruction and fleeing to elude.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be added.
