SAVANNAH, GA (October 3, 2012) A Metro police officer and his K-9 partner located a missing dementia patient this morning and then were attacked by a neighbor’s dog.

The K-9 officers had just located a 76-year-old patient hiding in a wooded area near Ben Kill Road just after 8 a.m. when a pit bull terrier twice attacked the K-9 and the officer. The officer was forced to shoot the pit bull.

The missing patient was returned safely to his residence.

The pit bull was located and transported to a veterinarian for treatment and later was humanely euthanized.
