Help Prevent Bike Theft

SAVANNAH, GA ( August 27, 2012 ) School is back in session and that means lots of students will be riding bikes to school.

A bicycle is stolen in the United States every 7 seconds. You can help lower that number by doing your part to prevent bike theft.

  • Always lock your bike: even in the garage, the apartment stairwell, or college dorm. (You should always carry a secure lock whenever you plan to leave your bicycle unattended. The U-locks have proven to be very effective, but like all locks they can be defeated. Use a high-end lock to reduce the chances of your lock being defeated.)
  • Register your bike at scmpd.org or http://www.myassettag.com/bike/
  • Report it if its stolen! 912-652-6500 ( non-emergency number for SCMPD)
