SAVANNAH, GA ( August 9, 2012 ) Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are investigating a suspicious death this morning after a homeless woman is discovered dead.


Just after 5 a.m., police were flagged down by a man who told them he thought someone was dead. He directed them to a make-shift homeless camp in the wood line near Old Hitch and McAlister streets.


Police discovered the woman lying on the ground, deceased. Michael Perry, 34, was detained at the scene and taken in for questioning. He has been arrested on a outstanding warrant separate from this incident. Charges could be pending the outcome of the autopsy. This is an ongoing investigation.


The victims name is being withheld pending family notification.
