GAS BREAK BACKS UP TRAFFIC

Note: Gas line has been repaired and traffic patterns are now reopened.

SAVANNAH,GA ( May 9, 2012) A ruptured gas main at Whitfield Avenue and Diamond Causeway has redirected all traffic onto Ferguson Avenue.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police have been told the repair to the four-inch line could take as long as 3 p.m. The line was cut by a construction crew.

All traffic to and from Skidaway Island has been halted at the intersection and redirected to Ferguson, which is backed up for miles in both directions.

A Georgia High School Association state baseball playoff game was scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Bethesda Home for Boys off Ferguson Avenue, which has added to the traffic woes.
